Term | Definition | Reference |
---|---|---|
Agencies |
Conscious and autonomous actions, which may come from individuals or groups. They combine values, identities and interests, oriented to an intentionality. | WRIGHT, Erik Olin. Como ser anti-capitalista no século XXI? São Paulo: Boitempo, 2019 |
Knowledge as a service |
One of the components of the Wikimedia Movement's strategic direction. According to this direction, Wikimedia serves its users with free knowledge through different means, including its platforms, communities, and tools. | Wikimedia Movement Strategy, "Knowledge as a service" |
Deep democracy |
A deeply democratic institutional system presupposes the broad and equal participation of its members in decisions that concern them to the extent that they concern them. In deep democracies, organizations function according to the interests of the people and are governed by them. | WRIGHT, Erik Olin. Envisioning Real Utopias. Londres: Verso, 2010 |
Positive disagreement |
A practice made possible by creating safe spaces where disagreements are treated in a positive and natural way, as a means to build meaningful critical dialogues in environments characterized by diversity. | HOOKS, bell. "Ensinamento 15: conflito". In: HOOKS, bell. Ensinando pensamento crítico: sabedoria prática. São Paulo: Elefante, 2020 |
Social empowerment |
The communitarian ownership of the political and economic systems, ensuring that decisions are taken in a deeply democratic way. | WRIGHT, Erik Olin. "Socialism as Social Empowerment". Berkeley Journal of Sociology, v. 50, p. 147-167, 2006 |
Knowledge equity |
One of the components of the Wikimedia Movement's strategic direction. According to this direction, the social, political, and technical barriers that prevent historically marginalized communities from accessing and contributing to free knowledge must be broken down. | Wikimedia Movement Strategy, "Knowledge Equity" |
Safe space |
A social environment, on or offline, where there is clarity about how to handle situations that might bring risk to those present. In this sense, it is expected to provide participants with certainty about expectations and well-defined protocols of conduct and crisis management. It aims to ensure that everyone has access to an environment that is open to divergence, based on trust in collective care and well-being. | HOOKS, bell. "Ensinamento 15: conflito". In: HOOKS, bell. Ensinando pensamento crítico: sabedoria prática. São Paulo: Elefante, 2020 |
Intentionality |
It concerns an autonomous, voluntary action toward social transformation, therefore planned, coordinated, and clearly defined. | ENGESTRÖM, Yrjö. "From Design Experiments to Formative Interventions". Theory & Psychology, v. 21, n. 5, p. 598-628, 2011; CAMILLO, Juliano. "Contribuições iniciais para uma filosofia da educação em ciências". 2015. Tese (doutorado), Ensino de Física, Universidade de São Paulo, São Paulo, 15 de setembro de 2015 |
Epistemic justice |
A practice of resistance and an alternative to hegemonic patterns of knowledge and ways of knowing. It seeks to undo the injustices caused by prejudice, which presupposes the lack of credibility of certain subjects before society, and the injustices caused by the exclusion of these same people from power structures, causing their social exclusion. | FRICKER, Miranda. Epistemic Injustice: Power and the Ethics of Knowing. Nova York: Oxford University Press, 2007 |
Wikimedia Movement |
An agent formed by the editors of Wikipedia and its sister projects, the Wikimedia Foundation and its affiliated organizations, and other stakeholders such as readers, donors, and institutions that use Wikimedia platforms. As a movement, its core values are collaboration and free knowledge | Wikimedia Movement's official definition |
Emancipatory practice |
A way of acting based on the problematization of the reality in which one lives, giving protagonism to questioning instead of conformation. Its main objective is the development of critical thinking, based on dialogue and collectivity. | FREIRE, Paulo. Pedagogia do oprimido. Rio de Janeiro: Paz e Terra, 1987 |
Underrepresented knowledge |
Knowledge that comes from historically marginalized communities and therefore faces barriers to its circulation and validation. | ACEY, Camille E. et al. "Decolonizing the Internet by Decolonizing Ourselves: Challenging Epistemic Injustice through Feminist Practice". Global Perspectives, v. 2, n. 1, p. 212-268, 2021 |
Sustainability |
It concerns the maintenance and development of the activities of Wiki Movimento Brasil over time. | Wikimedia Movement Strategy Glossary, "Sustainability" |
Territorialization |
It concerns the demarcation of boundaries between different environments where people, information, and cultures circulate. In Wiki Movimento Brasil's strategy, the territorialization of governance translates a culture guided by collaborativeness and broad participation, as well as the clear delimitation of roles and responsibilities, respecting the contexts in which the wikimedian agencies are situated. | SANTOS, Milton. A Natureza do Espaço: Técnica e Tempo, Razão e Emoção. São Paulo: Edusp, 2020; SANTOS, Milton. O espaço do cidadão. São Paulo: Edusp, 2020 |
